Jesus vs Easter Bunny

Many people believe nowadays that Easter has no longer about the death of Jesus and it has become another comercialised holiday and an extra long weekend, I'm on the fence on this one. I agree that over the years Easter (like Christmas) has become less about religion and Jesus and more about chocolate and a long weekend however if you watch the news and the Festivities that are held the spirit of Easter still remains. For me Easter has become not about Jesus or about a long weekend, for me it is about family, spending time with loved ones which I rarely get to see and just enjoying my family and I think it has become this way for more people. No matter whether it is about the religious aspect or Friday off have a happy and safe Easter.

as a child good friday was always a big deal to me... but as ive grown up its seemed to have lost its importance, but i guess thats because i now consider myself an athiest... however i still believe in spending easter with family and the people i love...

what i do find strange is my boyfriends hypocritical parents, who are athiests, as is he, but then they turn around and wont et him out on good friday because "its a religious holiday". no offence meant, but i just dont get it.

In that way, it's just like Christmas: a religious time for those that believe and a family time for everyone.

When I woke up this morning I was thinking about this very thing. Our daughter is 7 now. At Xmas we talked about the winter solstice and how early ideas and myths surrounding it were later incorporated into the Christian myths. I was thinking today would be a good day to talk with her about the renewal of spring, the Christian myth of rising from the dead, and Lepus and the Easter Bunny.

It was a fertility festival first.
The Catholic Curch moved the dates around to take over pagan festivals, they did the same for some of the saints as well.

That's why there's bunnies and eggs!
didn't you ever wonder?

So feel free to have eggs and think about bunnies - they were there first!

hi mate im back.........
Your right about this belinda i am not a person for sweets and crap like that but im not happy about people treating easter. Like kids alright they dont really have much sense to spend all of easter at mass. But their guardians should bring them to mass once a week. Some people do that but not everyone. in ireland people celebrate the easter riseing. Its when the irish faught back to the english. if you see the movie michael Coillins it shows you the horors of 1916 to 1922.... BLOODY...
I read....and one of my blogger friends is from ireland
bye belinda
