Karen Ellis a paedophile?
He was a Melbourne schoolboy. She was his PE teacher. He was 15. She was 36, old enough to be his mother. And she broke every rule in the book. For her sins, Karen Ellis was branded a paedophile, convicted and jailed. Just this month she was released and tonight she and her victim, Ben Dunbar, tell their story — the attraction, the secret meetings, the love affair … her crime. Put bluntly, Karen Ellis betrayed a trust. She had sex with a minor. And surprising as it may seem, after all the notoriety, all the damage this affair has caused, Karen Ellis and young Ben are back in touch. (see link for article)Okay so there have been many debates about this issue and I for one am on the side of Karen. Sure she slept with a student but come on the boy of fifteen years of age knows what he is doing. He was in a relationship with the woman and he consented to having sex with her, sure it is a breech of trust for a student teacher relationship to go on. Many people would question what a woman of her age would see in such a young male but does anyone truly understand the function of the human mind or why some people commit acts, which seem out of the ‘ordinary’…there is not one answer but thousands and they are only theories. If Ben had of been younger I would have looked at it from a completely different perspective but he wasn’t he knew what he was doing by engaging in a relationship with a teacher. What annoys me is how differently the law can be interpreted about age, take for example the two boys who stole a child from a pram and threw her onto the train tracks they were only just becoming teenagers yet they were tried as adults. So why is it that a fifteen year old boy who is having a relationship with a teacher cannot be considered as old enough to understand what he was doing? She should have lost her job for going against the rules of teaching but surely no be seen as a paedophile.

Good grief! Ben was one year off being a minor in this instance. He is a rahter well developed boy intellectually and emotionally. I think the law could have applied discretion. Sure, he was under 16, but if she was my gym teacher, id be pushing to the front of the queue for private tuition. hot damn!
Their brains aren't fully developed at that age, therefore they can't really give consent to have sex with an adult. Any adult that's like a child is an adult and okay to sleep with is a pedophile. Plain and simple. The fact that she had to drive him to her house to sleep with him because he didn't drive or have his own vehicle should've been enough to weird her out. He's a kid. I think it's terrible that he blamed his mom and 18 months past the mom calling the cops he hadn't talk to her. I don't know if they repaired their relationship in the years that have followed but the adult he should have blamed, is the teacher.
Ok our brains aren’t developed til we are 21 or so!
